LC: Attendance requirements, regulations and fees

Attendance is compulsory for all Language Modules. To successfully complete your module, you must attend at least 75% of classes (a minimum of 15 out of 20 classes).

Regular attendance is essential because language learning relies on continuous participation, interaction, feedback and practice to help you develop and improve your skills.

If you miss more than five classes, you'll need to provide evidence to the Language Centre explaining your absence. This will usually be a medical certificate. The reason for your absence must be accepted by the Language Centre and comply with university regulations. If it isn't, your absence will be recorded as unauthorised.

Important to know: If you don't meet the attendance requirement, you may not be able to pass and complete your module. It may also affect your ability to enrol on a Language Centre module in the future. 

Please note that when applying for a Language Module, it’s not possible to enrol on a lower stage, or repeat a stage that you have already taken in the same language with the Language Centre.

The below requirements must be agreed to when enrolling on a Language Module.  

1. I understand that attendance is compulsory and that a minimum of 75% attendance is expected. I understand that, depending on the module, I should expect to do between 4 - 10 hours of self-study per week.

2. I understand that, if I have previously taken but not passed an assessed module taught by the Language Centre, or currently still have outstanding assessments for a Language Module to take, I will not be allowed to take another Language Centre module.

3. I understand that the final written exam (and any resits or replacements, if applicable) will be held in person, either on Campus or at a designated exam venue in London.

4. If selecting a module For Award, I understand that it is my responsibility to establish that my programme’s regulations permit me to take this module as part of my course of study by checking with my home department. If it is not permitted and this is discovered after the relevant withdrawal deadline, I understand that I will be required to pay the Not for Award fee.

5. I understand that if I am applying for a credit-bearing academic module I must take all assessments for the module, i.e. oral exam and written exam. I understand that I am not permitted to audit or ‘try’ a Language Centre module.
