IoPPN: How to apply for projects using InPlace

The Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN) uses InPlace to manage the allocation of projects for some programmes.

You’ll use KEATS to browse available projects and read the full project details. You’ll then use InPlace to:

apply for projects
rank projects in order of preference
see which project you’ve been allocated.

You’ll be notified when projects are available for you to browse and apply for.

How do I browse available projects?

Open a web browser and log in to KEATS using your King’s credentials.

Under ‘Course overview’, select your programme.
You’ll be taken to your programme ‘Home’ page.
Select the relevant resources section for your year of study, then select the research projects section. For example, BSc Psychology students should select ‘Year 2 Resources’, followed by ‘Third Year Research Projects’.
In the ‘Project database’, you’ll see a list of the projects available for you to apply for.
Select a project to read the full project information.
Keep a note of the exact titles of the projects you want to apply for. You’ll need these when searching for projects in InPlace.

How do I apply for projects?

If you can’t log in or can’t see any projects available to apply for, raise a ticket with IT. Speak to your Module Lead if you need help doing this.

To apply:

From the ‘Home’ tab, select ‘View Available’.
You’ll see the projects available for you to apply for.
Select ‘Filter’.
Paste the exact title of the project you want to apply for into the ‘Search’ field.
Select ‘Apply Filter’.
This should display the project with that title.
Select the name of the project you want to apply for.
Select ‘Apply Now’ at the bottom right of the screen.
Click on ‘Select the Order of Preference’. (When you’ve applied for multiple projects, this will put them in your preferred order.)
Use the up and down arrows, or drag and drop, to arrange your projects in order of preference. If you’ve only applied for one project at this stage, you won’t need to reorder anything.
Select ‘Submit’.
Select ‘Submit Application’.

Once you’ve submitted your application, the project(s) will appear in your project list with ‘Applied’ next to it.

Repeat these steps to apply for a total of six projects.

How do I withdraw an application?

You can withdraw an application before projects are allocated.

Go to the ‘Home’ tab.
Select ‘View Shortlisted’.
From the list of projects, select the relevant project.
Select ‘Withdraw Application’. This option will only be available if you’ve already applied for the project.

Important to know: You need to have a total of 6 project applications. If you withdraw an application, you’ll need to apply for another project so that you still have 6 applications.

How do I see which project I’ve been allocated?

You’ll receive an email when you’ve been allocated a project.

You can also see your allocation from the ‘Home’ page in InPlace. Your allocation will appear under:

‘Next Attending’
‘View All Confirmed’
‘Notifications’.

Select the project name under ‘Next Attending’ to see the full project details.

What does ‘Days Required’ mean?

If you open the ‘Requirements’ tab or view your project details, you may see ‘Days Required’ followed by 180 or 365 days.

Important to know: This number is required for the system to work. You can ignore it.
