How can I submit a late visa application?

You might need to submit a visa application near the start of term for a range of reasons, including:

You’re waiting to meet specific conditions
You applied for your course later than usual
You’re waiting to meet visa financial requirements
You’re waiting for your CAS to be issued.

What you’ll need to do next depends on whether or not you’re applying inside the UK.

I’m applying inside of the UK

If you’re applying inside of the UK and:

you’re currently on a visa that allows you to study

and

you’re eligible to extend or switch that visa in the UK;

then you’ll need to make a valid Student visa application before the expiry date of your current visa. After that, you’ll be allowed to study at King’s while you wait for your new visa to be issued.

I’m applying outside of the UK

Use the guidance below if you’re applying outside of the UK, or if you’re applying inside of the UK but you currently don’t have a visa that allows you to study (including the Graduate Route visa).

Priority application services

UKVI offer priority application services for visa applications in most countries. For an extra fee, they’ll aim to give you a decision within 1-5 working days depending on the service you’ve selected.

The 1-5 working days stated is from the date that you provide your biometric information. There are two ways to provide biometric information:

Through an in person biometric appointment
By using the ‘UK Immigration: ID Check’ app.

The fastest way to provide biometric information is using the ID Check app. However, this is only currently available to the following applicants:

EU/EEA/Swiss nationals applying outside the UK
Anyone applying inside the UK and holding a valid BRP.

All other applicants must make an in-person biometric appointment.

UKVI have provided guidance about priority application services when applying from inside the UK and outside the UK.

Prepare your documents

If you know in advance that you’ll be making a late visa application, make sure that you’ve got all of the documents you need for your application prepared in advance.

This may include the following:

Financial documents
ATAS certificate (only certain programmes)
TB certificate (only certain countries)
Translations
Certificates (below degree level applicants)
