In 2025, you’ll be able to use your passport (or travel document) and eVisa to travel to the UK. Until the end of 2024, you must continue to carry your physical visa documents when travelling, even if you have an eVisa.
If you'll travel outside of the UK after your BRP expires, then you must make sure you've created a UKVI account and have linked your eVisa to your account before you return to the UK. This is because the border officer may check this on arrival.
You must also make sure that the passport (or travel document) linked to your UKVI account is up-to-date before travelling. You can update your details online through the government webpage Update your UK Visas and Immigration account details.

For those whose BRP expires at the end of 2024, provisions have been put in place for travel:
- UKVI have confirmed that until 31 March 2025, the Home Office will allow carriers – such as airlines – to initially accept a biometric residence permit (BRP) that expires on or after 31 December 2024 as valid evidence of permission to travel.
- Passengers whose immigration permission is still valid but whose BRP expires on or after 31 December are advised to continue to carry their expired BRP with them when they travel in the early part of 2025.
