As outlined in the General Terms and Conditions for Students, tuition fee increases for certain home students (on undergraduate programmes and some postgraduate taught programmes like PGCE) are subject to regulatory control by the UK Government.

Undergraduate home tuition fees cannot rise above any cap set by the Government, which may be changed from time to time.

If you’re already a current postgraduate taught, postgraduate research or international undergraduate student at King’s, tuition fees will not rise by more than 7% versus the previous academic year for the same course.

If you’re affected by a tuition fee increase, King’s will give you no less than three months’ written notice before the start of the academic year to which the fee increase is intended to apply.

2026 tuition fee increase

The UK Government has announced increases to tuition fees and maintenance loans, effective from the start of the 2026/27 academic year.

The Government has determined that tuition fees for home undergraduate students on full-time courses, at universities like King's that hold a Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) award, will increase by 2.71%, from £9,535 to £9,790. Tuition fee loans will also see a 2.71% increase to £9,790, matching the increased tuition fee. Further information can be found in the Government's announcement on their website.

For students due to go on a period of study abroad, a year in industry or another form of placement, please note that your fee amount may be different. We will contact you with confirmation of the amount as soon as we can.

King’s plans to implement these changes in line with Government policy. Tuition fees for affected home students (both new students and those returning to start their next year of study) will therefore be £9,790 from the start of the 2026/27 academic year

Tuition fee increases after 2026

There will also be an increase in tuition fees for the year 2027/28, which will be an increase of 2.68% to £10,050 for home undergraduate students on full-time courses, in line with the fee cap set by the Government.

Tuition fees may increase in subsequent years of study (subject at all times to the maximum tuition fee caps set by the Government). However, the fee paid for each subsequent year of study shall not exceed a 7% increase on the preceding year's tuition fee for the same programme. Further details are available in the Terms & Conditions for Students

How will King’s use the additional income from increased tuition fees?

The additional funds will help to support wider investment to enhance the quality of education and services we provide and ensure King’s long-term financial sustainability.

Will loans increase?

Yes, both tuition fee loans and maintenance loans will increase as well, by the same amount of 2.71%.

If you receive the full maintenance loan amount, this equates to an increase of £374.

If you are eligible for a tuition fee loan, your full fee amount will still be covered.

The terms of repayment for tuition fee loans will remain the same. In other words, if you have a tuition fee loan, then this fee increase will result in you continuing to make repayments for slightly longer, rather than repaying a higher amount each month.
