If you're suspended from King’s for any reason, this may affect your Student visa.
To meet the conditions of your Student visa, you must be attending and actively engaging with your studies. If you're suspended from the university for more than 60 days, we must report a withdrawal of your Student visa sponsorship to UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI).
After 60 days has passed, the Visa Compliance team will send you an email confirming that the report has been sent to UKVI. UKVI will then begin the process to cancel your Student visa. They should send you a cancellation notice which will include a deadline for you to leave the UK.
What you need to do
- You must leave the UK on or before the deadline stated in the cancellation notice.
- If you want to stay in the UK after the deadline, you must apply for a new visa under a different immigration category.
If you don't leave the UK or apply for a new visa by the deadline, you'll become an 'overstayer'. Overstaying means that you've stayed in the UK after the time limit of your latest immigration permission (visa).
Overstaying is considered a criminal offence and may lead to you:
- being forcibly removed from the UK
- receiving a ban from returning to the UK for up to 10 years.
Important to know:
- You can't stay in the UK after the cancellation of your Student visa because you're appealing against a suspension. To keep your Student visa sponsorship, you must be actively attending and engaging with your studies at King’s.
- If you've been suspended and you're a Student visa holder, you can contact the Visa & International Student Advice team for support and to discuss your options.
