How do I access my King's email account for the first time?
Students at King's can access their King's email account using a web browser from anywhere with an internet connection. Before you access your email for the first time, you should register for online services and set your own password if you haven't already done so.

For handy links and step-by-step guidance on how to register your account reset your password, and for your Microsoft Authenticator App and how to install it, visit Password resets and management - What you need to know.

What is my username?

Your username for your King's email account is your knumber@kcl.ac.uk e.g. k1234567@kcl.ac.uk. Visit the Access your email webpage to open the Microsoft Outlook Web App.

Important to know:

  • Your King's email address will be used by staff and services across the university to communicate important information to you. As such, remember to check your account regularly.

  • To help you keep up-to-date with your King's email account, you may find it helpful to add the account to your smartphone so important emails can reach you quickly.

I'm unable to log in to my IT account using my username and password
Firstly, please ensure that you are logging in to the correct screen to register for online services and self-service password management. When registering for online services, enter your username in the format KingsUsername@kcl.ac.uk.
For example, if your King's username is k1234567, then enter k1234567@kcl.ac.uk in the "User Name" box.

If you are still having problems, please email the IT Service Desk on 8888@kcl.ac.uk.

I forgot my password to access my IT account, what should I do?

If you have set up Microsoft Self-Service Password reset, then you can visit the Microsoft Online Password Reset webpage to request a password change.

To request a password change:

  • Enter your username in the format of knumber@kcl.ac.uk.

  • You will then receive a verification code to an external (i.e. non-King's) email address that you confirmed when setting up self-service.

If you have any issues with resetting your password, please attach proof of photo ID to an email and send it to 8888@kcl.ac.uk from a personal email address. The IT Service desk will then be able to reset your password for you.
