The Language Centre provides high-quality language courses to the King’s community as well as to the general public.
Language Modules for all students as part of your degree
Undergraduate and postgraduate students can take optional Language Modules if your degree allows this. Before you apply, check with your department or programme specification to make sure you’re eligible, in each year of your studies.
Language Modules are taught across seven stages, from Stage 1 (complete beginner) to Stage 7 (advanced). However, not all languages are available at higher stages.

Non-assessed language courses for postgraduate students only
If you're a postgraduate student and you're not already taking a Language Module as part of your degree, you can apply for one free, non-assessed language course designed specifically for postgraduate students.
If you’re already taking a Language Module for free, as part of your degree, you can still take one of the non-assessed language courses but pay the fee. You can find more information about fees in the Attendance requirements, regulations and fees article.
Our postgraduate language courses are available in Arabic, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish. Courses are offered at Beginner (A1) and Intermediate (A2/B1) level.

Language courses in collaboration with the Faculty of Arts & Humanities
The Language Centre provides language courses for students in Arts & Humanities, in collaboration with the Departments of Classics, History, Languages, Literatures and Cultures and Interdisciplinary Humanities.

Language courses in collaboration with the King’s Business School
The Language Centre provides the language provision for students enrolled on Accounting & Finance BSc, Business Management BSc, Economics & Management BSc and International Management BSc at King’s Business School.
The languages offered are Arabic, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Mandarin, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish.

Doctoral Training Partnership (DTP)
King's is a member of a number of multi-institutional Doctoral Training Partnerships. These are supported by the UK Research Councils, in order to provide studentship funding for PhD study as well as to provide structured training programmes that include research skills and enhancing employability.
If you’re a DTP student, you’re invited to take a language course at the King’s Language Centre, tailored to your PhD studies. The languages on offer are: Arabic, British Sign Language, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Latin and Spanish.

Evening and Saturday classes
Our evening and Saturday language courses are open to learners at all levels, from complete beginners to advanced speakers. You can choose from standard or intensive courses, lasting between five and 10 weeks, depending on how much time you want to commit to your studies.

Ancient Languages Summer School
The Language Centre's Ancient Languages Summer School offers intensive courses in Ancient Greek and Latin. The six-week programme includes beginner and intermediate-level study options and can be taken either on campus or online.
The courses are open to King's students and external applicants.
