- Travel Vignette
- Biometric Residence Permit (BRP)
- Digital Status
- Visa Vignette (Study of less than 6 months)
Valid from date – this will never be more than 1 month before the start of your programme of studies which is the earliest you can travel to the UK on a Student visa. Usually, it will be the date you stated in your application form as your intended travel date to the UK. You must not travel to the UK before the "Valid from" date.
Valid until – This is the date that the travel vignette will expire. There should be a full 90-day period between the "Valid from" date and the "Valid until" date. If your vignette has been issued for less than or more than 90 days this could indicate that there is an error with your visa. Please contact Visa & International Student Advice with a copy of your travel vignette, confirming your name and Student ID so that we can advise you further.
Visa Type – Should be “Student”
Observations – This should accurately confirm your work restrictions as well as confirm any requirement for you to register with the police.
I've noticed an error, what should I do?
You must report any errors within 3 months of your visa vignette being issued. We've included further guidance depending on your circumstances; navigate to the relevant heading below:
Important to know: If you’re not sure if there is a mistake, or whether you should report this, please contact Visa & International Student Advice for further guidance.
Your BRP is your official visa for the UK. Once you have received your BRP, it is important to check the following information carefully and report any errors immediately. All errors must be reported within 10 days of receipt of your BRP, otherwise, you may be required to pay for a replacement.
Important things for you to check are:
- Name – Check this matches your name on your passport
- Valid until – This should cover the full length of your programme of studies as well as provide an additional “wrap up” period after your programme end date. The length of time you are given for the wrap up period is different depending on how long you are studying for as follows:
- Programmes longer than 12 months (including 1-year masters’ programmes) = 4 months
- Programmes longer than 6 months but less than 12 months (e.g. International Foundation Programme) = 2 months
- Pre-sessional English Programmes = 1 month
- Programmes less than 6 months = 1 week
Please note that if you are studying a programme which will finish after 31 December 2024 your BRP will only be valid until 31 December 2024. The UK government are phasing out BRPs and after this date, all Student visa holders will be granted a digital status. We advise you to check your visa Grant letter/email for your official “Valid until” date and that this accurately covers the full length of your programme plus the relevant wrap up period as above.
- Type of Permit – Should be “Student”
- Remarks – This should accurately confirm your work restrictions as well as the King’s Sponsor Licence number which is: NTMHWM0V3
- Date and place of birth – Check that the information is correct as per your passport
- Sex - Check that the information is correct as per your passport
- Nationality - Check that the information is correct as per your passport

You must report this within 10 days of receipt of your BRP. The way to do this is different depending on the mistake you notice as well as where you applied for your visa as follows:
If you applied for your visa using the “UK Immigration: ID Check” app and have received a decision letter that states that your immigration status can be accessed online, your visa has been granted as a digital status.
