I'm an international student and need to prove my right to rent

You can generate a share code which evidences your right to rent. Your landlord then needs to use the share code to complete an online right to rent check. Landlords can no longer rely on a BRP to perform a manual right to rent check.

You can show your landlord your visa vignette. Your landlord can sign a tenancy agreement if they’ve performed a manual right to rent check on your visa vignette.  Your landlord will be required to perform an online check (within 30 days of the manual check) to complete their right to rent records.

You can provide your landlord with evidence that you’ve submitted a valid visa application while inside the UK, e.g., the document checklist or email acknowledgement you receive after submitting your online visa application. Your landlord will be required to perform an online check to determine your right to rent.

Unfortunately, you’ll need to wait until you’ve received your Student visa and it is valid to evidence your right to rent.

Important to know: your Student visa will only be valid for travel up to a maximum of 1 month before your programme start date. 

The right to rent guidance for landlords says that a landlord can agree a tenancy in principle’ before the person enters the UK. However, they’re still required to perform the right to rent check within 28 days before the official tenancy start date.
