How to request a CAS if you're a current student

We ask you about where you intend to apply for your visa as it helps us accurately complete the CAS. The CAS informs UKVI about your visa start date and other important information.

Important to know:

• It is very important to tell us if you change your mind about where you’re going to apply. For example, if you initially plan to apply from within the UK but later decide to apply from your home country, we might need to adjust the CAS start date.
• To be eligible to apply for your Student visa inside the UK, you must meet UKVI’s academic progression requirements. If you’ve got any questions about this, please contact our Visa & International Student Advice team.

If you’ve studied in the UK before on a Student visa and you want to apply for your Student visa extension in the UK, then you must meet UKVI’s academic progression requirements. Providing us with this information about your previous studies will help us to accurately document your academic progression on the CAS for UKVI purposes. This ensures compliance with UKVI’s requirements.

We also need to declare on the CAS how you meet the academic progression requirements, so knowing if you’ve studied in the UK before on a Student/Tier 4 visa will help us to make sure that the information on your CAS is correct for UKVI.

If you're unsure about the most suitable option for your visa extension, please select the option that fits your situation best. Afterwards, please provide extra information about why you're requesting a CAS in the section 'Please use the space below to provide any additional information you would like to share with us'.

Enter 01/01/2000 as your visa expiry date. This lets us know that either your visa has already expired or you’re uncertain about your current visa’s expiry date.

This won’t be a problem. On the CAS request form, please write your full name as written on your passport. We can then make sure that your CAS matches your passport.

We aim to provide your CAS within 4 weeks of your request, although we often deliver it sooner. If your CAS is urgent, please email our Visa Compliance team and we'll try to prioritise your request.

To avoid further delays, please don’t submit another CAS request. Generating your CAS requires speaking with multiple departments to gather all the needed information. If your CAS is urgent, please email our Visa Compliance team and we’ll try to prioritise your request.

If you notice that the passport number listed on your CAS is wrong, please email us immediately.

A CAS is a virtual document that provides you with information to help you complete your visa application and is shared with UKVI. You don’t need a PDF version of your CAS for your visa application.

Once you receive your CAS, it’s important to check it carefully and inform us immediately if you notice any errors. You shouldn’t use the CAS to apply for your visa until you’re certain that all of the information is correct.

It’s especially important to check:

• Personal details
• Passport number
• Course end date
• Course title and level
• If you need ATAS

Please email our Visa Compliance team with a description of the change(s) that you’d like to be made to your CAS. Many common changes can be made through the addition of a sponsor note.
