How do I select my modules?
Depending on your programme of study, you may have the option to select optional modules before you start your first term at King’s.
Before selecting your modules, you’ll receive an email from Student Admin Services or your Programme team (IoPPN, Nursing) when module selection is available for your programme of study. This email will provide you with links to a webpage of information that is specific to your Faculty and Department, and you should read this carefully as it provides additional information on what you need to do and how the process works
To select your modules:
- Follow the links in the email from Student Admin Services to log into Student Records and enter the task; that allows you to select your modules.
- Follow any User Help provided by your department/faculty, which will be shown within the Module Selection task and will guide you through what you need to do.
- The modules available for you to select will be listed in collections. Each collection will provide instructions regarding the number of modules or credits that you need to select from that collection.
- Once you select a module, this will appear in a ‘shopping basket’ on the right-hand side of the page.
Important to know: If you are in the IoPPN, FoLSM or Nursing (NMPC) faculties, your record is managed by your respective faculty team, and the module registration/selection process may be different to what is described above for other faculties.

- If you are a Pre-registration student, you will be asked by your faculty team to indicate a preference on KEATS, and you will be allocated, subject to capacity.
- If you are a Post-qualification student, this registration process is done through Student Services Online.
I can’t see any optional modules
If your course doesn’t allow you to have optional modules, then there will be no options to select.
The email from Student Admin Services will confirm that your Core and Compulsory modules have been automatically selected for you.
Some departments collect optional modules outside of the Student Record task and they will contact their students directly on the process for manually registering for optional modules. The email from Student Admin Services will advise you if your programme falls into this process. Queries must be directed to your department/faculty and they will guide you through the module selection process.
Important to know:
- You won’t be able to select your modules, until you have set up your IT account and completed the online enrolment task as you'll need to have a 'K number' to access the Module Selection task.
- You will only be able to view the module selection task during the opening and closing dates for each department or faculty.
How can I check my module registrations?
If you would like to view the modules you’ve registered for, you can:
- Visit Student Records
- Go to 'My Modules'
- Check the page 'View Module Registrations'
Important to know: Any resit examinations will not appear on your list of current module registrations.
When will my selected module registrations be approved and appear on my record?
New students
If you are a new student, you need to complete your enrolment before your modules can be finalised. You may or may not have modules to choose; many first year students don’t have optional module selections, so your mandatory modules will be registered for you as part of the enrolment process.
If you are on a course where you get a personal timetable, we aim to publish this for you by the end of Welcome Week or shortly after, and you should be able to view your modules on your record around the same time. However, this can vary by department, so if you haven’t received your personal timetable by this time, please check with your department/faculty.
Important to know: Be sure to check your student record for any tasks you need to do, and please complete them by the deadlines stated.
Returning Undergraduate students
If you are returning for your next year of study, you will select your modules in late spring (by the end of May), ahead of the start of the next academic year in September.
However, your modules will be finalised in September in time for the start of term, following your re-enrolment.
Important to know: You need to ensure you have completed your re-enrolment on your student record, which you need to do for each year of your studies.
If you don’t believe you made any module selections before the start of the new academic year, and you can’t find further guidance on your student record or amongst your emails, please contact your department/faculty.
Returning Postgraduate students
If you are returning for your next year of study, you will select your modules in the Summer with the new intake of students

Who gets a personal timetable?
Not every student at King’s gets a personal timetable. Some students will simply have a course timetable. This depends on your faculty and type of course; for details on which faculties provide personal timetables, and how to access your timetable whether it’s personal or a course one, please refer to Accessing your timetable.
How do I request a change to my modules?
If you change your mind about the modules that you wish to take, then you should contact your department/faculty initially to discuss your options with them.
Not all departments are able to permit changes to modules and many departments will have a deadline by which they can consider such changes.
I made changes to my modules, but I can’t see them; what’s happened?
If you have requested a module change from your department, this will not be reflected in the ‘My Modules’ section of your record, until it has been approved and actioned by your Department.
Once approved, we aim for the changes to your modules to appear on your personal timetable within approximately 5 working days, KEATS enrolment will follow, and the changes on your record should also soon follow.
I have too many modules on my record
If your department has asked you to select modules in preference order, you will have too many modules on your record initially until your department has completed the allocation process.
- Once the allocation process has been completed, you will receive a further email confirming this.
- Your timetable will be updated within 2 working days.
Important to know: If you have not selected modules in preference order, you should contact your department/faculty to discuss this.
I'm registered on the wrong modules
To check what you’re registered for:
- Visit Student Records
- Go to 'My Modules'
- Check the page 'View Module Registrations'
If you think that you’re registered on the wrong modules, please contact your department/faculty directly to let them know as soon as possible.
I missed the deadline to choose my modules, what do I do?
If you didn't make your module selections before the deadline, you must now contact your department/faculty as soon as possible. They will liaise with you on what modules you would like to take and will arrange to have these manually added to your record.
Can I take a module at another university as part of my studies?
If you'd like to take a module at another University of London college, it must be authorised by your department at King’s and the department at the other university.
You must first contact your programme team to identify if this is possible on your programme of study.
If it is possible:
- You then need to contact the university offering the module you'd like to take and complete their intercollegiate application form.
- This form must be first signed by your department at King’s and then submitted back to the university offering the module for their approval.
- Once your application has been approved, it is essential that you confirm this with your department so they can update your King's module record. This will ensure that the appropriate credits are allocated once you have successfully completed the module.
I would like to take an intercollegiate module at King's, how can I register for this?
If you are a student from another University of London institution, and wish to take a module/modules at King's, please contact the department/faculty where you would like to take the module directly.
You’ll need to complete a form (supplied by the department or faculty) and obtain a signature from your home institution and then submit it to the department at King's that teaches the module by email.
