As a student in the Faculty of Natural, Mathematical & Engineering Sciences, we want to make sure that your time at King's is positive, productive and stress-free, and as such we always want to hear your views about your student experience.
It is important that we engage with and bring together the views and opinions of students in all our departments to enable us to resolve issues, develop our provisions and opportunities and share good practice.
We gather your opinions at different levels and in different ways:
Staff-Student Liaison Committees
Student representatives are an important link between you and staff at King’s. They gather and share feedback from students to help improve your experience at the University.
Student representatives work with other representatives, KCLSU, department staff and the Student Experience Team. They receive training and support throughout their time in the role.
When do Staff-Student Liaison Committees meet?
Staff-Student Liaison Committee (SSLC) meetings take place two or three times each semester.
How do the meetings work?
Meetings take place in person and online. Before each meeting, student representatives gather feedback from students and raise it with staff during the meeting.
What happens after a meeting?
Your department will make sure you can access the meeting minutes, actions and updates relating to the feedback received.
A huge part of receiving your feedback is ensuring that you know what actions are being taken as a result of what you’ve told us. We refer to that as ‘closing the feedback loop’. You can read more about it in NMES: Your feedback in action – ‘Closing the loop’.
To find out how you can apply to become a student representative visit the NMES Student Zone on KEATS.
Department/Faculty Committees (Equality, Diversity & Inclusion, Education Committees)
Student representatives may be recruited to take part in Department or Faculty committees, such as Equality, Diversity & Inclusion or Education committees.
If you’re recruited to one of these committees, you’ll attend meetings to share student views and provide a student perspective on discussions and decisions.
You’ll be given information about when and where the committee meetings will take place.
To find out how you can apply to be part for a Department/Faculty committee visit the NMES Student Zone on KEATS.
Module feedback and evaluation
Module feedback and evaluation are essential parts of your academic journey. They provide the opportunity for you to share your honest experiences, highlight what's working well, and provide constructive feedback for improvements.
You can find out more in the article Module feedback and evaluation: Key information for students.
Student experience surveys
Each year the National Student Survey (NSS) and Postgraduate Taught Experience Survey (PTES) offer students in their final year a chance to reflect on their time at King's, to tell us how they feel about their course, the university, their teaching and learning and opportunities. From this we can see where we are doing well and where can improve.
You can find more information about each of the surveys in the articles below:
The Faculty and Departments take responses to these surveys seriously and will review the results and take action where needed. Students will be provided with updates in 'you said, we did' communications. You can read more in the article NMES: Your feedback in action - ‘Closing the loop’.
NMES50
NMES50 is a paid opportunity for students to help shape projects and initiatives that aim to improve the student experience in the Faculty of Natural, Mathematical & Engineering Sciences (NMES).
By taking part, you can share your perspective and work with staff to develop solutions based on students’ experiences.
When do sessions take place?
If you register your interest, you will be invited to sessions throughout the academic year.
Each session:
will have no more than 50 students
will last approximately one and a half to two hours.
How can I take part?
You’ll be able to register your interest in becoming an NMES50 participant int he beginning of October. Details about how to register will be shared in the Student Bulletin.
What happens after a session?
After each NMES50 session, you’ll receive an update explaining how participants’ input has been used and the next steps for the project. You can read more about how we process your feedback in the article NMES: Your feedback in action - ‘Closing the loop’.
Personal Tutors
If you have feedback or concerns about your programme or experience at King’s and you’re not sure where to raise them, you can speak to your Personal Tutor.
They can help you identify the most appropriate way to share your feedback or concerns.
You can find information about Personal Tutors and how to contact yours in NMES: Personal Tutors.
Meeting with University, Faculty and Department Leadership
Throughout the academic year, you may have opportunities to meet with members of the University, Faculty and Department leadership teams, such as your Head of Department or the Faculty Vice Dean for Education.
These sessions give you an opportunity to speak directly with senior staff and share your views and experiences.
Details of upcoming sessions and how you can take part will be shared in the Student Bulletin.
Report directly to service
If you have some feedback on a central service do direct your points directly to the service in question:
Report + Support

Report + Support also provides guidance and information articles about bullying, harassment, hate incidents or sexual or physical violence, as well as information about the options and support available.
